MPC Success Stories
Meet some of the animals that generous support of
the Malibu Pet Companions has helped over the years.
Ali
Ali was arrived at the shelter horribly emaciated, and was immediately taken to the vet. Diagnostic tests indicated he had Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and would require special food and medication for the rest of his life.
With lots of TLC from shelter volunteers and the right medical treatment funded by MPC, Ali began to gain weight despite his medical condition. He was adopted by a lovely family who were thrilled to have this happy boxer as a part of their family.
Angus
Hi my name is Angus! I came to the shelter as a stray and am not looking too handsome at the moment. I am missing patches of fur and have many sores. A visit to the vet, funded by MPC, showed I have severe flea allergies, low thyroid, and a skin infection. So now I am on medication, and take special baths to get me back in good shape.
Shortly after Angus received medical care through MPC he was adopted to a wonderful family with another senior pup.
Banjo
Banjo is an 8 year old Shih-Tzu mix, who arrived to the shelter as a stray with a very common condition called "cherry-eye," which causes the eyelid to swell, bulging into the eye itself. After a quick and simple surgery funded by MPC, Banjo now has healthy clear eyes. Banjo and his partner Samantha (a big Husky who just adores her little buddy!) were recently adopted together to a family whose two senior pups had passed away.
Beauty & Baby Beau
When Beauty came to the shelter as a Humane Case, no one knew she had a "bun in the oven". She was at the shelter for many months before it was discovered that she was soon going to foal. She gave birth to a healthy and spunky Colt the volunteers named Beau. MPC paid for a private vet to examine both mama and foal to make sure all was right. They have both since gone to a rescue group that specializes in gaited horses and the correct way to train them.
Black Beauty
Black Beauty was turned in by her owner because she had issues soiling outside the litter box. The owner wasn't sure if it was crystals or another medical condition causing the problem. MPC took Black Beauty to a private vet to see if she was ill and she remained there for observation. The Vet noticed her urine had a strange pink coloring which they determined was caused by inflammation. They recommended a supplement for a couple of weeks. The food didn't taste bad and she got extra wet food-yummy fishy tuna! Black Beauty went back to the doctor and had a normal UA and a clean bill of health. She won’t need any further medication unless her symptoms reappear.
UPDATE: Adopted!
Boris
Boris came to the Agoura Shelter as a stray. He was in poor condition from living on the streets but he was nice so we suspect he was owned by someone at some time. He had an odd rash so MPC took him to Malibu Coast Animal Hospital for treatment. He had a positive FIV test. The shelter volunteers fell in love with Boris and worked hard to find him a home. His rash cleared up and his fur improved after receiving proper nutrition. A nice couple came in and wanted to help a cat that needed rescuing. Boris was not sick but some people are unsure about FIV positive status since they don’t understand what it means. Boris loves people, dogs and other cats. Boris was adopted by a wonderful family who report that he is a very friendly cat and is doing well.
Carlo
Carlo was reluctantly turned into the shelter when his owners could not longer care for his serious gum issues. MPC funded badly needed dental surgery and post-surgical antibiotics. He was recently adopted to a wonderful family, where he is happy and loved, and adapting well to his new surroundings. Carlo's former owners, who truly loved him, are happy to know that he's doing well.
Charlotte
Charlotte, a senior 11-year-old Silky Yorkie, was found on the side of the road in heavy labor and in distress, and was rushed to the vet as soon as she arrived at the shelter. She was turning blue by the time she arrived at the veterinary clinic, and an emergency c-section was needed to save her life. Sadly, her puppies did not survive their premature birth, but Dr. Berry of Agoura Hills Animal Hospital was able to save Charlotte - even after her heart stopped twice during surgery! Charlotte entered foster care with one of our volunteers, recovered beautifully, and was adopted by a wonderful family who were thankful that MPC was able to fund her veterinary and after-care.
Cocoa
Cocoa arrived at the shelter as a stray. Her coat was dirty and patchy and she had difficulty getting up. MPC took her for an exam with a private vet and after having X-Rays taken it was determined that she had arthritis in her lower back. She is currently being evaluated by the vet for a mass discovered in her abdominal area.
UPDATE: The mass was benign and Cocoa went home with a wonderful family that includes a senior Golden Retriever!
Cookie
When Cookie came to the shelter as a stray, she was woefully underweight, dirty and just two days from giving birth to a litter of six puppies. Cookie developed a urinary tract infection and MPC arranged and funded her veterinary care and medication. All of Cookie's puppies have been adopted. So now that she's done being a good mama, she is ready to find her forever home. Cookie’s foster family says her personality is bubbly and affectionate. She is housebroken, gets along wonderfully with other dogs and is not as active as a "typical" Jack Russell. She’s pretty small too, only weighing about 12 pounds.
UPDATE: Adopted!! By her Foster Family!
Daisy
Hi my name is Daisy! I was turned in by my owner who said I was having seizures, and I did have one seizure during my first week at the shelter. So, the MPC brought me to the vet where they ran some tests, but found no problems with me at all! I came back to the shelter, and have not had a single seizure since.
Diego
Hi, my name is Diego! I became an MPC dog after I was attacked by another dog. I arrived at the shelter with multiple wounds and was rushed to the vet right away. I had torn skin, and a number of puncture wounds that became infected. I ended up being hospitalized with the terrific vets at Malibu Coast Animal Hospital, who took care of me for about a week. Now I'm good as new. As you can see from my picture I am a senior boy, but don't let that fool you!
Adopted!
Dinah
Dinah came to the shelter as a stray. A lovely 9 year old senior girl, she developed nasty skin and ear infections while at the shelter, and MPC funded the diagnostic tests and prescription medicine she needed to clear it all up. With the help of a rescue who networked her after her stay at the shelter became lengthy, Dinah was recently adopted into a family with two other senior dogs. She sleeps in the bed with her two new furry siblings and her new owner who adores her!
Fat Spot
Hi, I’m Fat Spot. I arrived at the shelter and soon settled in. After getting my shots and blood tests I went into a sunny open room with many other cats. I never met them but before and we shared our stories about the people we no longer live with. The room was nice and I didn't have to stay locked up in a cage any more. The volunteers were concerned about how I walked and MPC vet gave me a exam. The vet said I may have mild arthritis but my awkward gait was due to my being overweight. He said I was 21 pounds and my previous owner probably loved me too much and gave me too much food. I always thought I was big boned. I am a nice boy. I could use a nice home. I like other cats and may be ok with rabbits. I am will keep your heating bills down since you won't need throw covers if I move in and sleep on your lap. Please adopt me or some of my other shelter friends.
Update: Adopted!
Frankie & Jessie
We are litter-mates that came in as strays. The volunteers say we are lucky to be alive being so young out of the street. Strays are cats/kittens that were either outdoor animals that get lost, indoor animals that escape outside, get scared and lost, or just animals without a true home. Frank is the black and white. Jesse is the tabby. Soon after we arrived at the shelter, the volunteers notices that Frank had some fur missing around his mouth. At first they thought it I was just a messy kitty that had food stuck on my mouth. A few days later, they noticed some bald or crusty patches on my ears and head. I was taken to the vet who confirmed I had ringworm. The vet said it is a fungal disease.
My brother didn't have any signs of the ringworm but kittens get it easily. We were treated with a anti-fungal topical medicine. The spots started to clear. We were then re-evaluated by MCAH and it was decided we should get oral medication. The oral medication made treatment easier. The volunteers say we are active kittens. We have much more energy than the average kitten.
Frannie
- F /
- Chihuahua mix /
- 7 Years
Frannie was transferred from the Lancaster Shelter after a devoted volunteer there begged us to bring her to the Agoura Shelter because her "time was up" the next day. Frannie had severe dental disease and she needed to be spayed. MPC arranged for and funded both procedures and is now a healthy and happy girl waiting for a cozy lap to rest in. She gets along with other dogs and her foster mom reports she is a well behaved girl. Please call (818) 519-3093 for more info on Frannie.
UPDATE: Adopted!
Frenchy
I'm Frenchy -- a young, male, cream long hair cat. I came into the Agoura Animal shelter as a stray cat. I was not feeling well when I went in. My ears were very itchy and sore. The shelter vet said I had ear mites. MPC paid for some special medication to get rid of the ear mites. The medication made it easy to treat me with just 2 doses of medicine rather than daily ear drops. The volunteer said she could tell I was in pain since she could barely touch my face due to the ear infection. My ears have now cleared up and my fur grew back (I was partly shaved due to severe hair matting). Just over look my cauliflower ear. It is not painful or harmful to me. My ear is sustained some damage caused by the ear mites but it is only on the surface and does not affect my hearing. The volunteers say I made a great recovery and am now a social and outgoing cat.
Frenchy has found a loving home. His new family looked past his deformed ear and was able to see what a handsome boy he really is.
Fudgie & Misty
Fudgie and Misty, a senior pair, both age 8, were brought to the shelter by their owner to be euthanized. They both had skin and ear problems that their owner did not want to spend any further money on. The shelter intervened to save these two sweet souls
from euthanasia, and MPC stepped in to fund the medical care it took to clear up some ear and skin problems they were experiencing, and to continue thyroid mediation which the owner had stopped giving them (it was a lack of this inexpensive medication that caused the skin issues to persist). Both dogs have been adopted by wonderful families who adore them and feel fortunate to have them as a part of their family.
Gig
- F /
- Rottweiler /
- 5 Years
A more friendly and happy dog you’ll never find! Gig has never met a person or a toy she didn’t like. One day when she was in the play yard at the shelter, she was tossing her toy in the air and chasing it with such joyful energy that she tore her ACL (the ligament in her knee). Unfortunately, the surgery to correct the painful injury is a very expensive one and the recovery at least 6 weeks long. However, Gig is such a special girl that MPC stepped in to arrange and fund her surgery. We are happy to report that the surgery was a success and now Happy Gig is ready for her forever home! She is at the Agoura Shelter (818) 706-5898 or for more info, please call (818) 519-3093. Wontcha take this happy girl home?
UPDATE: Adopted!
Gigi
Hi, my name is Gigi! I became an MPC dog after I had my puppies (9 in all!) and developed some stomach problems. The helpful volunteers with MPC checked me out with the vet to see if maybe I might have parasites - fortunately all is well. It was probably just all that rich food I ate while nursing.
Adopted!
Gordie
Cute little Gordie came to the shelter with a minor skin condition. MPC funded his treatment as well as his neuter, and he is now ready for his forever home. Please call the Agoura Shelter at (818) 706-5898 for more info on Gordie.
Update: Adopted by a wonderful volunteer!
Mindy
- F /
- Tabby /
- 12 Years
My name is Mindy. I am a short hair tabby cat. I went to the MPC vet to make sure I was healthy because I am an early senior cat. The vets said I am in great shape no illnesses at this time. I would probably do best in a quieter home without young children. I can be very affectionate but please don't pick me up and carry me. I prefer to have all 4 paws on the ground. Some say I am a bit grumpy but that is because they smell of cat. I prefer to have my person all to myself. I am special enough of a cat so why do they need another cat when they can have a petite cat like myself. If you want a cat that isn't too demanding and have the right sort of home, won't you consider adopting me? I have been at the shelter for over 7 months and deserve a place to call my own and enjoy my senior years. Senior cats are great because you don't have to deal with training issues and we are mellower than those youngsters called kittens.
UPDATE: Adopted!
Otto
- M /
- Rottweiler /
- 6 mos
Otto Needs You!! Otto is a gorgeous young Rottie puppy that was transferred to Agoura from the Lancaster shelter. Otto was born with a congenital defect to his leg that sadly required the amputation of the leg. MPC arranged for and funded Otto’s surgery. He is recovering nicely and doing well on three legs. Otto is a sweet, engaging boy who has had experience with other dogs (his siblings primarily, Max and Elsa) and is well loved by the staff at Malibu Coast Animal Hospital. Dr. Dean at Malibu highly recommends Otto to potential adopting families! Please ask the staff at Malibu Coast Animal Hospital about Otto or call (818) 421-6155 for more info on this adorable boy!
UPDATE: Adopted!
Robbi
- F /
- Rottweiler /
- 6 mos
Sweet Robbi Needs a Home! Robbi was dumped on the streets of Lancaster in a box with her nine siblings when she was only 6 weeks old. A volunteer from the Agoura Shelter was so charmed by Robbi’s sweetness that she transferred her to the Agoura Shelter, where a pup with the type of deformity such as Robbi’s has a better chance for adoption. Robbi’s front right leg is shorter than her other limbs and her paw is shaped like a claw but she doesn’t let that slow her down! She runs, climbs stairs and loves to play with her foster sister! Robbie is pen trained (she’ll let you know when it’s potty time!). Robbie will be spayed, have her shots and be microchipped before adoption. Please call (818) 519-3093 for more info on sweet Robbie!
UPDATE: Adopted!
Trina
- F /
- Chihuahua mix /
- 7 Years
Trina is a favorite at the shelter. Everyone loves to watch her play with her toys. One of the volunteers noticed a lump developing on her side. MPC arranged and funded her vet visit at which time it was determined that she had an abscess. She is now being treated and is looking for a home to call her own!
UPDATE: Adopted!
